Skylar was saved from an abusive owner, who was trying to poison her. A young gentleman took Skylar in and the abusive owner signed her over to him. Unfortunately, Skylar got hit by a car and got severe road burn all over her body. Her back leg split open from the road burn leaving her muscle, tendons, and bones exposed.
The new owner took her to the emergency vet and he could only afford pain meds. He took Skylar to Memphis Animal Services to get help, but they said that he would have to surrender her and they would put her down. The owner called The Savior Foundation for help, since he didn't have the money to give her the extensive, critical medical care needed.
The Savior Foundation committed to give Skylar the critical care she needs and give her a chance at life. Germantown Parkway Animal Hospital fit her into their packed schedules as an emergency case for us. Skylar is now under Dr. Angie Zinkus' care. Dr. Zinkus did a thorough examination of Skylar and noticed that Skylar had an old injury causing her other back leg to atrophy. Unfortunately, Skylar will need a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) while her other leg is trying to heal. Skylar also had ticks and tapeworms. Skylar also got her vaccinations and flea, tick, and heartworm preventative.
Even though Skylar has suffered so much, she is a very sweet and kind girl. The Savior Foundation is fostering her during the critical time of her treatment, so she can be close to the animal clinic for any emergencies. Skylar gets along great with other dogs and cats. Skylar is extremely skinny and loves to eat!!
Skylar has a long road ahead of her. The Savior Foundation spent $2,000 on her already and will be spending a lot more money to give her the treatment she needs. We desperately need donations to cover her future care. Any amount is so much appreciated!!
